Brushfire Press

Prior to the launch of Bryushfire Press, local fiction writers had three primary options if they wished to see their stories published:

• Local publishers of LDS-themed literature
• Small presses and publishers outside Utah
• National publishers in New York (usually through a literary agent)

The opportunities for young writers developing their skills in high schools were even more limited—they could submit their works to their schools' small literary magazines or reflections contests.

Brushfire Press found the options given to both proficient and developting writers to be inadequate.

National publishers often judge manuscripts on bogus criteria. LDS-themed publishers only meet the interests of a fraction of the Utah population. Small, in-school literary magazines and reflection contests do not encourage young writers to develop their talents as much as real opportunities for publication.

Brushfire Press is a different kind of publishing company:

• We seek out local writers who have felt left out by previous publishing options
• We work with educators, schools, and community organizations to develop new writers
• We search for minority writers whose voices have been underrepresented

We seek to enhance the local literary scene in a way no other publisher has attempted.

Brushfire Press is an artist-run company. We are writers who did not want to deal with the opinion poll and fad-driven national publishers.

Our primary goal is to facilitate the growth of Northern Utah's literary scene.

Brushfire Press chooses to publish manuscripts for their quality, not because they fit a formula for current trends. After a manuscript is chosen for publication, we then design a marketing plan to give the author and the book as much attention as possible.
